Krystal Malichi
Education has been a part of my life for the past twenty years. I worked with some of the most.
AMAZING humans from infants to Pre-K in my earliest employment as an assistant teacher in many
private and Montessori educational facilities. I credit these establishments and people as my
first lessons in what it means to be a teacher from high school and after graduating from the
The University of Oklahoma with a bachelor's degree in Sociology.
Upon graduation, I applied to receive my teaching certificate through ACP and taught in a
Montessori school is the best student teaching experience. In 2004, I went to the classroom at a
dual-language charter school teaching Kindergarten. The director
taught me discipline and allowed me to hone my craft my way. I will be forever
grateful for that first chance to take the lead in my classroom.
In 2004, I sought employment
in the Cypress Fairbanks Independent school district. I worked as a Kindergarten at Danish
Elementary, and spent the next ten years of my life working with some spectacular people and
navigating the ends and outs of the public school system. In 2013, I was named a model
teacher. My journey to presenting and opening up my classroom to teachers began.
I am in my fourth year as a Primary Instructional Specialist at Bane Elementary,
working with teachers and students from Pre-K to 2nd grade.
I never imagined I would be out of
the classroom. This role has challenged me in ways necessary for my educational growth.
The new kid on the block is trying to navigate a system
that requires collaboration and problem-solving with teams of adult learners. The
teachers, administrators, and students I work with drive my passion for finding
the JOY in everything we do!

Teaching is my jam! I fell into teaching on accident. I moved high schools my junior year of high
school and the only elective that was open in the middle of the school year was Teacher Prep. This
is where my passion of teaching started. That same year I started working at a daycare working in
a toddler classroom as a teacher aid. Eventually making my way to having my own class during the
summers.
After graduating from Sam Houston State, I was hired at Bane Elementary teaching Kindergarten.
My first year I was stunned about what I saw that my students had to go through. 98% of the
campus is low income. Many of the students leave in hotels or with family members. They came in
with dirty clothes but were so happy to come to school. My kindergarten team was my saving
grace. I had the most incredible 6 women you could ever work with. Each of them had their own
ways of teaching and unique talents. I learned that not all students from impoverished homes will
be working at low levels. I learned the importance of building strong relationships. After a few years
I was Spotlight teacher and a few years later a model teacher for the district. Currently I am a
Primary Interventionist. One of my favorite luxuries of being an interventionist is that I get to brag
to my students’ parents and teachers about the amazing reading and writing behaviors I notice as
they change over time. I have worked at Bane for 17 years now and plan to retire nowhere else.
